Korean 'Happy Gilmore' Wins Japan Golf Tour Event

He has become one of golf's most well-known characters due to his golf swing which seems to take a page out of Happy Gilmore, and now Hosung Choi has converted it into a big win.

The South Korean used his incredible swing to take out the Casio World Open on the Japan Golf Tour but it wasn't the first time that he was in the headlines.

Choi became an international sensation when he appeared at the Korea Open in June.

The 45-year-old begun the final round five under par and finished an incredible 15 under overall, one stroke ahead of the runner-up Brendan Jones.

Long before he was a golf champion and an internet sensation, Choi's love affair with the game began when he got a part-time job at an upscale golf club in his mid-20s.

In an interview with GOLF.com, the South Korean explained how the game had given him an exit from the struggle growing up.

"I lived year after year in a struggle," he said.

"But I had the desperate and urgent mindset that golf was all I had. I think that is what made me."

Following his win on the Japan Golf Tour, fans rejoiced on social media and even called for Choi to be included in the Hero World Challenge.
